Danny Roberts has worked with some real music industry legends! In the early 70's, Danny was in a band called "Mudcrutch." Also in the band: Tom Petty. Yeah, THAT Tom Petty! But Danny wasn't just a Petty "sideman." He wrote and sang lead vocals on a lot of Mudcrutch stuff, including many of their recordings.
Danny's also worked with Derek Trucks, Billy Joe Royal, Robert Nix, Denny Cordell, Phil Seymour, many more. for a great Danny bio, see http://www.thoseguys.com/bio_danny.html.
We've known Danny since the 70's. When we first met him, he was in "The Bad News Boys," playing the old "Lakeland Lounge" on Hwy 92 on the Polk/Hillsborough line. Man, those guys jammed! I didn't know of his extraordinary resume at the time. In 1984, Ray Blade and I played in a band with Danny called "The Purple Gang," and he also played with JGLB in 1997.
In May, Danny was in a car that was hit by a truck. Not good! Danny was seriously injured, but he's rapidly recovering!
Some of his old buddies have come together to help out in a time of need. TAKE FIVE is an outstanding group hailing from Lakeland, operating in the Allman Brothers sphere of musical influence. Folks who recall the early-mid '70s Florida music scene will recognize several members from a great band called FAT CHANCE, widely regarded as one of the best and most popular bands around at the time.
DAMON FOWLER is one of the hottest guitarists in the USA.
CHARLIE SOUZA, currently of the NEW RASCALS, was also a member of Mudcrutch. He also has been working on a project with Danny, The Mudbreakers.
"COUNT" JEFF ARTABASY, formerly of Lakeland, now makes his home in Tampa. He played with Danny in a 1976 band: "Perfect Stranger."
Our band, JOHNNY G LYON / JGLB.
